Energy Flexibility as Additional Energy Source in Multi-Energy Systems with District Cooling

The integration of multi-energy systems to meet the energy demand buildings represents one most promising solutions for improving performance sector. flexibility provided by building is paramount allowing optimal management different available resources. objective this work highlight effectiveness exploiting thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs) in order manage (MES) through model predictive control (MPC), such that can be regarded as an additional source MESs. Considering growing space cooling, a case study which MPC used satisfy cooling reference tested. sources include electricity from power grid and photovoltaic modules (both are feed variable-load heat pump), district network. To evaluate varying contributions resource management, functions—namely, minimization withdrawal grid, total cost primary consumption—are tested MPC. results using makes it possible achieve improvements MES based on function implemented, i.e., reduction 53% use taken 43% reduction, 17% reduction. This paper also reflects impact individual optimization with system could have other users sharing same sources.
